Hydrophobic means to repel water. Applying a hydrophobic coating to a surface can help the surface repel dirt and residue for easier cleaning. These types of coatings also have an oleophobic property, meaning that oil and grease is also repelled. Knight Optical provide Hydrophobic Coatings to wide range of protective windows made from materials such as BK7 or equivalent, UV Fused Silica or Borosilicate. Benefits for hydrophobic are that is: Optically Clear Easy-to-Clean Fingerprint and Smudge resistant The properties of the optical component itself remain unaltered meaning it does to hinder its current application or require a redesign. This coating would be a custom item and can be applied to most of our stock optical components. If you would like to discuss how a hydrophobic coating can enhance your application contact our technical sales team whom can assist. Read PDF for full specification

Optical flats are single precision flat surfaces. They are used as reference surfaces to compare flatness of a substrate where flatness is unknown. When a high quality optical flat is placed on top of a polished substrate and used in conjunction with a monochromatic light source light bands are formed. The light bands that are present are known as interference fringes and their shape represents how flat the part being tested measures. Dependent on how many rings are formed or how straight the presented lines are is an indication of how flat the tested part is. Optical flats are used for testing gauge blocks. Optical flats are also used in interferometers and high quality flat optical mirror and window sub-straights for laser applications. This range of quartz optical flats are single-sided. Quartz has low thermal expansion properties and is very durable and cost effective solution over UV grade fused silica. Read PDFs for more information

Germanium wafers are a semiconductor material & therefore are a smart choice for microelectronics. Due to its unique electric properties, it is widely used for sensors, solar cells and infrared optical applications. The wafers are also great for microelectronics as the space is limited and being available in 500μm or less it makes it perfect to achieve the high quality results required. It’s thermal conductivity makes it a good alternative to silicon. Our stock wafers are produced as thin as 500μm and provide exceptional surface quality. However, we can manufacture to a fully customised specification with a wafer thickness as little as 10 μm. Typical specifications of our germanium wafers are: 10mm – 150mm in diameter <500μm in thickness Doped and undoped Germanium

Colorimeters measure colour in a substance, for example in water. It defines the measurement of the colour to enable its identification, using the lightwave spectrum. Colorimeters are a form of a spectrophotometer. The use of mirrors in the system, redirect the light beam from the light source to the sample and back to the sensor to enable a reading. Knight Optical provide high quality coated front surface mirrors of varying reflection averages from stock and to custom specifications. Knight Optical provide several metallic coatings such as: •UV Enhanced Aluminium •Enhanced Aluminium •Protected Silver •Protected Gold •Visible Dielectric •NIR Dielectric These are all available as custom coatings depending on your requirements for your colorimeter.

Established over 30 years ago, Knight Optical is a trusted and recognised name globally in the provision of precision optical components. Our optics are used in a wide range of industries including scientific, defence & aerospace, medical & biotech, oil & gas, engineering, research, and laser. With an extensive product catalogue of optics, including lenses, windows, mirrors, and filters, which can be ordered directly from our website, Knight Optical aims to have a quick solution for our customers. However, for application specific optics, Knight Optical excels at providing custom optics manufactured to individual specifications. We can work with different materials including standard glass, acrylic and more specialist materials such as sapphire, germanium, silicon, and zinc selenide. We do not rely on being a trusted name, we also test all optics in our metrology laboratory and visually inspect for surface imperfections ensuring that each component that leaves our premises does so in strict accordance with customer requirements, so our optics are ready-to-use upon arrival. We are ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 14001: 2015 certified. If you are looking for premium-quality, bespoke optical components, please do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of the Technical Sales Team on info@knightoptical.co.uk.
