Birch wood is fine-grained and pale in colour, often with an attractive satin-like sheen Popular in continental Europe, birch is the classic among firewood. It produces very little sparks, has a strong blue flame and its resin is strong in fragrance producing an atmospheric perfume around the house. It is a wood easy to handle and creates quickly a high temperature due to its easily flammable bark. Due to its oil content, the wood has an higher moisture content to other hardwood.
