In any case, whenever possible, it is advisable to remove the staples before chop the cardboard, to preserve the cutting knives as much as possible and also to avoid finding metal pieces inside the packaging material that is created. It is also possible to shred CDs, floppy disks and 86x54 mm PVC cards (standard credit card format).
