As with SBLCs, Letters of Credit are required by law to be 100% funded upon issuance. Normally, this would require that the client either deposit the full amount of the LC into the financial institution providing the instrument, or qualify for a loan from the providing institution, also in the full amount of the LC requested. These SBLCs are insured to protect the investors if a default occurs but in many cases, SBLCs will qualify a client for a line of credit or loan they otherwise would not qualify for.
