Composition: Deep bog peat from Ireland. Ideal for: Long slow burn giving off lots of heat. Characteristics: Very good for open fires but even better in stoves. Dry and densely compacted means a long hot burn with a pleasant aroma. Perfect for enabling a controlled burn in stoves and open fires. How to use: Like bark, peat contains more silica than wood, so will leave much more ash than wood briquettes. However, it is the ash that helps hold the heat for long periods in the same way that a garden bonfire of branches can still have hot embers in the ash pile days later.
