Sharp Edge: Edge Angle

If the edge radius is smaller than the thickness of the lifting strap, the edge is considered „sharp“. Lateral motion or pressure alone may be enough to cut through the textile fibres of the lifting strap. The 56 mm secutex coating sits between the load and the textile load lifting accessory. The edge radius is increased by this layer. The edge is no longer sharp against the lifting strap and lift forces are directed away from the edge.

secutex coated lifting straps gently adapt to the „sharp edges“ of the load. The extreme structural resistance of the secutex material safely prevents any cutting of the load lifting accessory. For very „sharp edges“ the coated lifting strap is preferable since it reliably prevents movement over the edge. We offer two different types of fixed coating. The secutex fixed coating protects the single sided secutex coating against cuts to the loadbearing textile.The reverse side is protected against abrasion and dirt by the Powerflex thin coating. The lifting straps with secutex fixed coatings are very flexible and easytouse. The twosided fixed coating provides allround protection to the lifting strap, offering double security. This means that both sides can be used as contact sides. Dangerous mixups are now a thing of the past.

The protection against „sharp edges“ Alongside other factors such as temperature, chemical environment and mechanical loads, the „sharp edge“ remains one of the main causes of damage to the lifting accessory itself and frequent cause of accidents. Most damage on sharp or rough edges is the result of load movement perpendicular to the load lifting accessory. If the edge is „sharp“ it can, in a worstcase scenario, cut through the lifting accessory. If the load moves laterally, a cutting movement takes place at the edge. Much like the blade of a knife, the edge can cut through the fibres of the textile lifting accessory. For loads with a „sharp edge“ or with a rough surface, a protective sleeve or fixed coating is recommended to protect the textile lifting strap.

If an edge exceeds the range covered by the norm, the usual textile lifting accessories can no longer be used in conjunction with the secutex protective sleeve. If the edge radius of a load is less than 2 mm, lifting experts refer to it as a “critically sharp edge“. secuwave and secuwave Mini are thicklycoated protective sleeves with a wave structure on the contact side. The wave structure increases the bending radius of “sharp edges”. The edge lies in a wave trough, while the load rests on the wave peak. Therefore, the “sharp edge“ has no contact with the protective sleeve. secuwave is delivered as a clip. This means that it can be subsequently added to a lifting situation. secuwave is available in two versions. The various sizes mean that the suitable wave size can be used.
