For industrial applications, as in aerospace, titanium is often chosen for its excellent mechanical resistance and its low density. Because it is also extremely resistant to corrosion against a certain number of acid solutions, titanium is now commonly being used in diverse industrial activities. Not exhaustively, we can name a few: surface treatment, chemistry, petro-chemistry, off-shore, desalination, marine and underwater construction, exchangers… It is also being used in racing (connecting rods) and in the textile industry (shuttles), because its low density reduces the inertia of moving pieces. Products such as golf clubs, watches, jewellery can now commonly be found in titanium because of the nobility associated to it. The most commonly used grades are : commercially pure grades: Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 slightly alloyed grades: Grade 7 and 11 (Palladium), Grade 12 (Molybdenum and Nickel) alloyed grades: Ti 6Al 4V Grade 5, Ti 3Al 2,5V Grade 9. Industrial titanium, or standard titanium, is conform to the following norm : ASTM B348 (bars), ASTM B265 (sheets and plates), ASTM B861/B862 (welded and seamless tubes).
