In addition to expensive copper, the recycling process also recovers aluminium and noble metals. In order to reach these valuable raw materials, robust preliminary crushing units are used, followed by a second crushing cycle. The demands on the crushing knives cannot be ignored and they must therefore be very tough. In Germany alone, each year the volume of PET bottles discarded when empty has exceeded 400,000 [tonnes], 96% of which is taken to professional recycling.
