It is only found there under layers of sediment material made from the ancient remains of marine life. Under parallel layers of the water stone that is usually completely white or light grey in colour, we excavate and then treat the known abrasive material, the whetstone. 100%NATURAL PRODUCT Non metallic mineral constituted of 96-99% Silicon Dioxide (SiO2). Layers range in thickness from 2 to 15 centimeters. Sharpening Stones Industry is a small family enterprise that began activity in Heraklion, Crete in 1898. The Founder Evangelos George Perakis had been born in the region where the stone is excavated (Elounta in Lasithi) that today constitutes part of the Municipality of Saint Nikolaos. He studied commerce in Constantinople and, having learned several foreign languages, he decided to open his first business in Heraklion.
