Outer skin structure offers waterproof and windproof functionality whereas membrane allows air passage and hence breathability of human skin. Outer fabric in softshell is usually 1/1 , 2/1 Oxford woven Polyester fabric layered with PU membrane. Polyester/Elastane (Lycra or Spandex or Creora may be) fabric also commonly used as shell fabric.
