The RB223 passive barrier can be used to galvanically isolate active signal circuits (0 to 20 mA) in three applications:Transmission from non-Ex to Ex areas e.g for active adjusters, controllers or indicators, Transmission from Ex to non-Ex areas for connection of active, intrinsically safe circuits to the PLC, Transmission from Ex to non-Ex areas for supply of intrinsically safe transmitters with non-intrinsically safe transmitter power supply.

The active barrier RN221N supplies e.g. a transmitter with power, if required also in the Ex-area, and then transmits the galvanically isolated signal. With the optionally available HART® monitoring the status of the transmitter is monitored. If an error arises a relay at the RN221N sends an alarm. The relay has to be actively set back. Thus even just briefly occurring errors can be easily located.
