Seaming chucks and rolls made from tool steel are generally considered the industry standard for can factories, while canneries generally use stainless steel. Other types of steel are commonly used in the production of seaming chucks for Easy open covers, especially for those chucks that suffer from a weak chuck lip.

CVD coating is typically used for Stoody seaming rolls and chucks. Its main feature is its superior adhesion to the base steel, which provides a high resistance against wear and corrosion.

PVD coating is commonly used on seaming chucks made of steel.

This coating is typically applied on seaming chucks and rolls and it extends their life up to three times. Surfaces coated with DIAMOND 98HRC have a very low friction coefficient, and as a consequence they have very high anti pickup features. Therefore, rubbing is reduced, and seams can avoid peeling.

This chromium plating is used for some applications, such as seaming rolls for filters and deepdrawn aluminum cans. It guarantees a very good wear resistance and a low friction coefficient.

UCAR plating is applied on the lips of the seaming chucks in order to offer high wear resistance features, besides friction with the parts it is in contact with.

Ceramic seaming rolls can increase production efficiencies and reduce machine downtimes by eliminating or significantly reducing many problems deriving from wear, corrosion and superficial damage. There is a low friction coefficient and they are approved by the USFDA.

Depending on the client’s needs, seaming chuck lips can be provided with the following superficial finishing features smooth, sandblasted or knurled.

In addition to the bare rolls, Imeta offers – as an optional service – the seaming rolls preassembled with their pins and bearings. Seaming rolls are then provided already set and lubricated, ready to be mounted, allowing significantly shortened machine downtimes. The assembly is carried out by our skilled technicians using all the correct tools and equipment such as the hydraulic press and the dynamometric wrench. Potentially using certain old items (pins, bottom plates, dust covers), that maybe still in good condition, it is also possible to provide partial assemblies according to the client’s needs.

Thanks to our experience in this industry, Imeta has developed new assemblies for some older seaming rolls. These include the “Easy System” type roll for the Angelus P Series, and the “Super Seal” type roll for any seaming machines. These can reduce roll maintenance time and costs.
