Out of the 16,500 Ha of land under sugarcane cultivation in the entire factory area of the south, Omnicane Agriculture owns and manages some 3,000 hectares of land under sugarcane cultivation and around 2,800 hectares harvested annually, Omnicane produces about 225,000 tonnes of sugarcane yearly. In agriculture, two distinct periods are considered, the crop and intercrop seasons. These occur from June to December, and from January to June respectively. The intercrop season is the period where most of the replantation programmes and field maintenance are carried out. The crop season concerns the harvest and the crushing of cane by Omnicane Milling Operations. Sugar is made in the leaves of the sugarcane plant and is stored as a sweet juice in its fibrous stalks. Once planted, the sugarcane crop remains in the field for about 6 to 7 years. Only 12 % of the sugarcane is replanted yearly. ** Ask for information **

Our sugarcane mill at La Baraque annually produces around 135,000 tonnes of Plantation White Sugar for our refinery, 400,000 tonnes of bagasse for our main cogeneration power plant, and 45,000 tonnes of molasses for our bioethanol distillery. Using energy-saving diffuser technology for juice extraction, our sugarcane mill processes 1.3 million tonnes of sugarcane a year and has a daily milling capacity of 8,500 tonnes. When sugarcane trucks arrive at Omnicane they are weighed and the cane is then handled to begin the milling process. Sugarcane first passes through a shredder to be disintegrated to facilitate the extraction of juice. A pre-extraction mill extracts part of the raw juice from the cane. This raw juice is sent to a mixed-juice tank. Shredded cane then passes through the diffuser for the final extraction. ** Ask for information **

Omnicane refinery has an annual production capacity of 200,000 tonnes of white refined sugar type EEC GDII. The Plantation White Sugar (PWS) feedstock for the production of refined sugar is supplied by Omnicane at a level of 130,000 tonnes, 40,000 tonnes originate from a local milling company and the difference is imported. The plant was upgraded in 2012 to increase the production capacity from 600 to 700 tonnes daily, with a shift in the sugar manufacturing technology. The adopted process resulted in an improvement in the overall energy consumption of the refinery as well as an improvement in the sugar quality bringing it up to the Coca-Cola standards. The PWS is transported by belt conveyors from the warehouse to the remelter station where it is weighed before being remelted. The remelt liquor is then transferred to the clarification station for further processing. Clarification is done with the addition of phosphoric acid, lime and ... ** Ask for information **

The electricity exported yearly by our power plants to the national grid of Mauritius represents just under 30% of the annual electricity generated in the country. Furthermore, Omnicane produces 40% of the country’s renewable bagasse-based energy. La Baraque Our main power plant at La Baraque is one of the largest bagasse- and coal-fired cogeneration plants in the world. It uses bagasse during the sugarcane crop period, and coal outside of the crop period to generate steam and electricity for the cluster and electricity for the national grid. Of the same type as the first but smaller, our second power plant at La Baraque uses woodchips and coal and caters mainly for the distillery’s requirements in both steam and electricity. Omnicane's main cogeneration plant captures by-product heat from the combustion of bagasse and coal and transforms this heat into useful energy, namely steam and electricity. ** Ask for information **
