The Nara plants grows naturally in the Namib Desert and is traditionally harvested by the Topnaar (#Aonin) people. During the harvest season members of the community go out on donkey-pulled carts to hand-harvest the valuable melon-like fruit. The seeds are then extracted from the fruit in an age-old tradition.
