Cooperage (tonnellerie) is the craft of making wooden containers (vats, barrels, kegs) from boards, tightened with hoops. More than three centuries coopers produce high quality oak barrels - sharp, different size tanks and drums that created the fame of the village Vrachesh, area of Botevgrad. The main material used for the manufacture of barrels is oak Quercus - conferta. This is the most widely used material in the manufacture of barrels without knots, sapwood and cracks with fine annual rings. Staves are prepared by cleaving the log into quarters, radial rays such as the core does not come out from the one to the other broad side. Barrels are made from high quality natural dried materials drying period of 24 months for the surrounding arcs and 36 months for troughs. Château TAYAC is a family estate. The vineyard is located in the Médoc and covers 37 hectares in the heart of the prestigious Margaux appellation. The PORTET harvesting owner family applies the COUSINIE method providing a generous nutritional contribution to vines whilst significantly limiting treatments. The vineyard is perched in the gravel hills of Soussans, in the Médoc, and covers 37 hectares in the heart of the prestigious Margaux wine-growing area. Château TAYAC is run by the PORTET family, which has owned and harvested the estate for four generations. We apply the COUSINIE method for a generous nutritional intake whilst limiting the number of treatments. The soil is therefore more balanced and is better prepared to naturally repels attacks. Both vines and grapes benefit from these privileged conditions. Stripping and the green harvesting also enable us to control production and optimise the quality of wine which is matured in French oak barrels for 12 months. Château TAYAC wine is sold in Bordeaux stores, cellars, restaurants and is also directly exported.

The curious thing about the pelican on the crest is that it is not an animal native to Scotland. It is thought that Scottish crusaders saw them during their journeys to the Holy Land. Earlier versions of the crest would portray the pelican as feeding her young from the blood of her own chest, symbolizing self-sacrifice and putting the motto into great perspective. The crest was why the pelican wing was incorporated into our label design.
