The membrane nitrogen generators NM-GEN extract the available nitrogen from the compressed air. Membrane nitrogen generators use hollow fibre membrane technology to separate nitrogen from other components in compressed air. The membrane uses the principle of selective permeation to produce purity nitrogen. Each gas has a characteristic permeation rate, which is a function of its ability to diffuse through a membrane. Oxygen is a fast gas and is selectively diffused through the membrane wall, while nitrogen is allowed to travel along the inside of the fibre, thus creating a nitrogen-rich product stream. The oxygen-enriched gas, or permeate, is vented from the membrane separator at atmospheric pressure.Most of the slow gases and a very small amount of the fast gases continue to travel through the fibre until they reach the end of the membrane separator, where the product nitrogen gas is piped to the application.

The N-GEN nitrogen generators extract the available nitrogen in the ambient air from the other gases by applying the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technology. During the PSA process compressed, cleaned ambient air is led to a molecular sieve bed, which allows the nitrogen to pass through as a product gas, but adsorbs other gases. The sieve releases the adsorbed gases to the atmosphere, when the outlet valve is closed and the bed pressure returns to ambient pressure. Subsequently the bed will be purged with nitrogen before fresh compressed air will enter for a new production cycle. In order to guarantee a constant product flow N-GEN nitrogen generators use two molecular sieve beds, which alternatively switch between the adsorption and the regeneration phase. Industrial nitrogen gas can be also produced by separation of gaseous air using membrane technology or fractional distillation of liquid air using cryogenic technology.

Brine concentration In many applications of the chemical industries, a concentration by evaporation of mixtures and brines is necessary. Without membrane technologies, the whole volume flow of the process has to be evaporated. With an upstream reverse osmosis plant, the liquid flow can be pre-concentrated and condensed by a factor of 50-75%. The remaining volume flow is treated by a conventional evaporator. The energy consumption of the membrane systems is mostly significantly below of the consumption of the thermal processes, what makes a condensation by membrane plants very economical. Coating colour recycling at paper and cardboard industries During the production of coated paper, it has to be cleaned with water and so, waste water results with pigments of the coating color. Because of their properties, exisiting precipitation plants are working hard on these types of waste waters. Alternatively to precipitation plants, membrane filtration technologies can be used to recover these high-value coating pigments. For that, the water with coating color pigments is circulated through the membrane plant until the required concentration is reached. The permeate is free of particles the CSB value is reduced significantly. It can know be handled by the precipitation plant, which is relief by the removing of the pigments. The concentrate with coating color pigments will be recirculated into the production process. Membrane filter presses have a great influence on the dryness of the solid by using membrane technology in the filter plates. Compared to conventional filtration processes, it achieves the lowest residual moisture values in the filter cake. This makes the membrane filter press a powerful and the most widely used system. IF TIME AND DEGREE OF DEWATERING ARE CRUCIAL Depending on the degree of dewatering, different dry matter contents ( – percentage by weight of dry material in filter cake) can be achieved in the filter cake by squeezing with membrane plates. The range of achievable dry matter contents extends from 30 to over 80 percent. Membrane filter presses not only offer the advantage of an extremely high degree of dewatering; they also reduce the filtration cycle time by more than 50 percent on average, depending on the suspension. This results in faster cycle and turnaround times, which lead to an increase in productivity.
