Quick Lime more formally as Calcium Oxide is an odorless white or pale gray powder produced by heating limestone in specially designed kilns. It is a very stable compound and withstands high temperatures. The great thing about slake or quick lime is that it mixes with carbon Dioxide in the air, gives us its water and reverts to limestone. As another significant advantage it dries very slowly and as a result does not crack and even if a crack appears it self-heals as, gets in and the crack seals as it reverts to limestone. Thanks to its high calcium content Quick lime has many capabilities. Contrary to dyes, pigments are insoluble. Therefore, pigments remain under the form of small particles and will just be dispersed in the carrier and so colouring the carrier. The colouring capacity of the pigment depends on the fineness of the particles composing the pigment. In general we can say that the finer the particles are, the higher the colouring capacity of the pigment will be. A pigment is only suitable for certain applications. The pigment shouldn’t react with the carrier.
