Compostable self-adhesive material for biodegradable labels as a sustainable alternative Two HERMA adhesive/label combinations have now been awarded the so-called Keimling (seedling) logo, as certification according to EN 13432 has been completed. The standard is the internationally recognised benchmark for the industrial compostability of biodegradable products. Producers wishing to use compostable packaging will finally be able to enjoy the efficiency benefits offered by labelling.

Semi-permanent adhesives are mainly required for re-sealable labels. In addition to the packaging surface's properties, the restoring force of the packaging is a key factor. Special challenges include the certification for direct contact with foodstuffs and reactions to moisture, oils, or alcohol.

HERMA laser films have been developed especially for black/white and colour laser printers. With suitable colours, the surface yields good printing results with all standard printing methods. Label sheets are particularly suitable for product identification, e.g. barrel or pallet labelling. In combination with certain HERMA acrylate adhesives, this film meets the requirements according to BS5609 section 2 (seawater resistance).

It is now possible to manufacture removable labels eben for critical surfaces without any compromises regarding visual and physical durability. For that purpose, HERMA has developed a special range of adhesives that is suitable for many substrates. It allows labels to reliably perform their task, after which they can be easily removed.

PETP films These films feature an extremely high resistance to mechanical damage such as scratches. Suitable for high temperatures and moist environments, they can for instance be used in rating plates. In combination with the adhesive 63B, our PETP films meet the strict US standard UL969 – a key factor especially for use in the automotive industry.

Our uncoated papers absorb printing ink very well and are suitable for universal use.

PP films non top-coated HERMA PP films without a topcoat are versatile, ranging from white 40 µm films for visually very attractive glossy labels to weather and UV resistant films for outdoor use that combine high printing quality with great durability. They achieve excellent printing results with standard printing methods such as flexo, letterpress, offset, and gravure printing. Before printing, it is recommended to refresh the corona pretreatment.
