Plastic pollution is a major problem and as a matter of fact, 90% of waste floating on the ocean surface is plastic. That would be approximately 46, 000 pieces of plastic per square mile! , for every 1 ton of plastic recycled, an estimated 7 landfills are conserved. This is very important, especially considering the fact that we are running out of landfill space quickly. Moreover, by recycling plastic, 80% of the total energy to produce new plastic products is conserved. The production of plastic involves the use of petroleum and other fossil fuels. These fuels are not only scarce but also produce plastic in a way that is harmful to the environment. By recycling, we can reduce the amount of plastic produced and help the environment.
