Looking to improve you medical system? Then look no further. Knight Optical presents to you their Dichroic colour filters range. These Dichroic colour filters are typically used in scientific instrumentation or/and medical systems in particular palm vein scanners, ophthalmic diagnostics, professional eye care equipment from optical equipment or ophthalmic instruments. Our Dichroic filters: • Have a hard dielectric coating and are designed to offer high transmission over a specific wavelength while reflecting all other wavelengths. •Offer superior contrast between transmitted and reflected wavelengths. Having a dielectric coating they are perfect for high power applications and do not show the strong fluorescence of certain glass filters. •Are temperature resistant and can be used to reflect heat away from hot lighting systems in addition to their colour correcting properties, unlike traditional polyester type colour filters that melt and distort under thermal conditions.

Plastic materials may crack under the prolonged exposure to a UV light source… But not Knight Optical’s Dichroic Hot Mirrors! Knight Optical can supply you with high quality and cost effective Dichroic Hot Mirrors for use in optical systems where unwanted UV or IR light negatively impacts on the system quality. This includes UV and IR Sensitive Systems, medical illumination and display fibre optics. Prolonged exposure to UV light can cause degradation in plastic materials resulting in cracking and, eventually, mechanical failure. Exposure to IR can cause undesired thermal energy and heat into the system that can damage delicate components. Dichroic hot mirrors solve this issue by reflecting UV and IR light away from the component, meaning cost We hold a massive inventory of Bandpass, Long pass, Short pass, Band-blocking and Colour-correction filters. Within medicine the use of polarised light was first introduced back in the70’s; since then it has come leaps and bounds. How it has been used to help with imaging skin pathologies, when the skin is illuminated by linearly polarised light it causes backscattering of the superficial layers of the skin where cancer often arises. This superficial backscattered light can be distinguished from the diffused reflected light when using a detector. Polarised Beam-Splitter Cubes, Sheet Linear Polarisers, and Sheet Circular Polarisers are often used within detection devices for this type of skin pathology imaging. Knight Optical hold a large inventory of Polarisers for use within Skin Cancer Detection devices. •We stock large sheets up to 1270x480mm in some cases; we can cut these into special shapes at short notice. •Mounting options are also available. •Special Glass laminating to CAB polarisers •Special AR coatings. Knight Optical offer a range of Stock N-BK7 Dome Windows, for use with Underwater Lighting. A dome is an optical window composed of two parallel curved surfaces. Domes are commonly used in defence applications and often in extreme environments such as Submersible ROV’s. The shape of the window creates a naturally strong shape that gets tougher under pressure. Using a curved dome optical surface allows for an increased beam angle, therefore allowing a greater area to be lit from one light source. For visible applications, N-BK7 with its high optical quality and uniform transmission and low absorption in the visible spectrum makes it an ideal material for underwater lighting. A tough and cost effective solution which allows for good transmission of the light source in the underwater environment will both protect the light source as well as transmitting from 300nm up to 2µm. Knight Optical We can offer Custom Moulded Aspheric Lenses for use with Laser Diode Collimators. Aspheric lens surfaces are used to correct spherical aberration (where the converging light from a lens does not have a common focal point, resulting in a distorted image) in lasers and imaging. Traditional spherical lenses cannot collimate light effectively because even small angles of incidence can produce spherical aberrations. This can mean that several components may be required to get the desired result. The non-spherical surface of an aspheric lens allows a single component to effectively focus or collimate even highly divergent emissions, potentially replacing a multi-lens system with a single aspheric lens. Therefore Aspheric Lenses that are moulded are ideal for use within laser diode-to-fibre coupling applications. For more information read PDF ….

Unwanted hair, be gone! Knight Optical offer a range of Stock Dichroic Filters, for use within IPL Applications. Intense Pulsed Light filters are essential to IPL applicators as they are used to filter out the UV wavelength range; and transmit between 400-1200nm for use within cosmetic lasers that are designed to remove unwanted hair, vascular treatment and even acne treatment. These IPL Filters are often stacked between sapphire windows within the IPL applicator to offer a more defined wavelength spectrum when in use. Dichroic filters consist of thin film dielectric coatings on glass, and are designed to offer high transmission over a specific wavelength while reflecting all other wavelengths, having negligible absorption. The dielectric coating is perfect for high power applications, and does not show the strong fluorescence of certain glass filters. These dispersing equilateral dispersing prisms have a very simple triangular cross section. Equilateral dispersion prisms are commonly used for wavelength separations, i.e. refracting white light into a rainbow pattern effect. Depending on the material used equilateral dispersion prisms can be used over a wide range of wavelengths. We offer UV Fused silica prisms for use in the ultra-violet wavelength from 170nm and other high index materials which are used for visible applications. Antireflective coatings are applied to most of our high index grade of equilateral dispersion prisms as high index material is sceptical to staining and corrosion which anti-reflective coatings eliminate. Antireflective coatings also help to improve output of the light as they prevent light loss due to surface reflection. The exit beam is in general at an angle to the input beam, this angle depending on the prism material, the wavelength and the incidence angle READ PDF FOR MORE INFO

Knight Optical can offer transmit and receive windows and mirrors for LIDAR systems using visible, NIR (0.9 to 1.5µm) and Mid-Waveband Infra-Red (MWIR, 3 to 5µm) light. Since the 1960s, scientists have used LIDAR (light detection and ranging) to study the atmosphere. Short pulses of laser light are used to detect particles or gases in the atmosphere, like a radar bounces radio waves off rain drops in clouds. A telescope collects and measures reflected laser radiation, like a radar dish collects the radar signal, leading to a profile of the atmosphere's structure along the path of the laser beam. Researchers can then determine the location, distribution, and nature of atmospheric particles and molecular species using an advanced LIDAR method called the Differential Absorption Lidar (DIAL) technique. Knight Optical can supply you with custom made Diamond turned aspheric lenses for use within autonomous vehicle LiDAR systems. Autonomous vehicle LiDAR systems create driverless cars. Whereby the system produce autonomous vehicles which can perform complex manoeuvers and drive in public with little or no input from a user. Spherical aberration occurs in common singlet lenses, which results in an image that appears distorted, aspheric lenses correct spherical aberration. An aspheric lens surface is designed non-spherical, which allows a single component lens to collimate or focus highly divergent rays potentially replacing a multi-lens system. This in turn provides the LiDAR system with a better signal quality, at lower costs whilst making the system more compact. Knight Optical offers diamond turned aspherics from a range of suitable NIR materials for autonomous vehicle LiDAR including N-BK7 or equivalent, sapphire, quartz, UV fused silica, amongst others.
