"The Goji Tree The Goji Tree is a shrub/tree on which the goji berry grows and is native to China. This tree was imported into Europe in the 18th century. The long curved branches have thorns. The leaves are grey-green and the flowers purple. The berries are about 2 cm long and orange-red in colour. Before being dried, they are juicy and burst quickly. The goji tree can withstand all weather conditions, varying between -26℃ in winter and 40℃ in summer. After a growth period of 2 years, the first berries are produced. Goji berries are grown on a plantation along the Yellow River in China. In this area 3000 trees are planted per hectare, where they grow in width. Each pod contains 20 to 40 beans in a kind of paste. The raw beans are about 2.5 cm long. After harvesting, the pods are opened and emptied. The removed paste is then left to ferment in the sun for a few days. After drying, the beans are broken into small pieces and passed through a grinder to separate the beans from their husks.
