Lentils (Lens culinaris Medic.) belong to the Angiospermae tribe, the Dicotyledonopsida class, the Fabales order, and the Fabaceae family. The related genera of the lens are, for example, the chickpea (Cicer) and the pea (Pisum) genera. Annual plant. The origin of the lentil, thus its primary gene center, can be placed in Inner Asia, from where it spread in Eurasia and then in Europe. In Europe, according to findings, the lens was known as far back as the Iron Age! Humanity has therefore known its excellent nutritional value for thousands of years. Nowadays, it has become one of the most sought-after foods among the legumes that can be grown in our country. This old cultivated plant is grown primarily for its valuable seeds. Lentils are still one of the mainstays of meals in the Middle East and India, where at least 50 varieties are known.
