Automatic Number Place Recognition Cameras otherwise known as ANPRs; are camera devices designed to work at certain wavelengths (dependent on Country) to read a license plate’s number of a vehicle to then track it through a database to identify any criminal offences links to that car, such as uninsured; stolen; major and organised crime; and even terrorism. They are typically installed on motorways; busy roads around cities and towns; and also on police cars as well as specialised ANPR police vans. Knight Optical offers Colour Glass Filters for such an application, be it either long pass or bandpass filters. The wavelengths typically used by ANPR camera companies are: 695nm; 740nm; 810nm; 850nm; 910nm and 940nm Read PDF for more information

Sapphire is an incredibly hard crystal (HK1370kg/mm2), second only to diamond. Fluoresence free sapphire windows have high mechanical strength, thermal and chemical resistance and is scratch resistant, making it very desirable for operating in harsh conditions. Sapphire windows can be made thinner than alternative crystals thanks to its structural integrity and can operate up to 2030⁰C. The material transmits between the UV and IR at 0.15-5.5µm, and has a high refractive index of 1.75.. Knight Optical supply a range of quality Sapphire optical components including Fluoresence free sapphire windows, Sapphire lenses, Sapphire prisms, and Sapphire blanks either from stock or bespoke custom made to your specification for a range of applications.  Our current range includes Random Polarization Sapphire that can be used for most applications apart from UV use. Knight Optical can offer Pellin-Broca Prisms for use within Atomic Spectroscopy. We supply a range of Pellin-Broca Prisms for a range of applications. All individually QA checked and metrology tested for quality to ensure parts meet customer specification. Supplied in a range of sizes and shapes with custom coatings tailored to meet your individual applications. Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers within Atomic Spectroscopy. Pellin-Broca Prisms are designed with a given material, angle and wavelength in mind to perfectly deviate a beam of the given wavelength by 90 degrees. These are often used to separate beams of differing colours and as such are ideal for use in optical atomic spectroscopy or to separate outputs of a multi-line laser. For more information read PDF…

Intense Pulsed Light Systems use not only use filters, that are used to filter out the UV wavelength range; and transmit between 400-1200nm for use within cosmetic lasers that are designed to remove unwanted hair, vascular treatment and even acne treatment. But they also use Homogenizing Rods to help evenly distribute light. The Light source will enter a light pipe at a variety of incident angles, which is designed to utilise its total internal reflection to channel the light from the entrance of the light pipe to the exit. The material’s refractive index is the only factor which affects the light pipes critical angle; this defines the angle of acceptance which the total internal reflection will occur at. All our Homogenizing Rods are fully inspected on their quality in our ISO 9001 certified, state-of-the-art Metrology laboratory, using our Trioptic’s PrismMaster, and Starrett AV300 Video Imaging System.. Knight Optical can offer transmit and receive windows and mirrors for LIDAR systems using visible, NIR (0.9 to 1.5µm) and Mid-Waveband Infra-Red (MWIR, 3 to 5µm) light. Since the 1960s, scientists have used LIDAR (light detection and ranging) to study the atmosphere. Short pulses of laser light are used to detect particles or gases in the atmosphere, like a radar bounces radio waves off rain drops in clouds. A telescope collects and measures reflected laser radiation, like a radar dish collects the radar signal, leading to a profile of the atmosphere's structure along the path of the laser beam. Researchers can then determine the location, distribution, and nature of atmospheric particles and molecular species using an advanced LIDAR method called the Differential Absorption Lidar (DIAL) technique. Knight Optical can offer Gas Cells for use within the Chemical Analysis. We supply a range of Gas Cells for a range of applications. All individually QA checked and metrology tested for quality to ensure parts meet customer specification. Supplied in a range of sizes and shapes with custom coatings tailored to meet your individual applications. Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers within the chemical analysis industry. Gas cells are used in spectroscopy for identification of the contents of gases. The path length and window material are chosen for analysis of different concentrations and types of gas. Depending on the types of gases being analysed, the windows in a gas cell can be made from NaCl, KBr, CaF2, BaF2, or ZnSe and will be chosen depending on bandwidth, to meet the customer’s application. All our Gas Cells are fully inspected on their quality in our ISO 9001 certified, state-of-the-art Metrology laboratory

Knight Optical supply custom laser mirrors for use at specific laser lines from the UV (200 to 400nm) to the IR (1to 40µm) wavebands. The laser mirrors can be custom made to include the following range: 1 YAG laser mirrors (High power grade) 2 Excimer laser mirrors (High power grade) 3 Argon-ion laser mirrors (High power grade) 4 Diode & broadband (Ti:Sapphire) These mirrors are made from vacuum depositing thin films of material that have differing refractive indices & thickness onto suitable substrates. Typical custom laser mirror substrates are calcium fluoride, germanium, sapphire, fused silica and Zinc Selenide which produce a high efficiency reflecting surface at the laser wavelength. As UVC sterilisation becomes more prevalent, Knight Optical can offer UV domes to house LEDs and LED arrays, as well as other light sources. We stock ready-to-order 50mm and 100mm UV fused silica domes with high transmission down to 185nm, meaning it encompasses the traditionally used UVC light sources – KCl excimer lamps (222nm), mercury lamps (254nm) and LEDs (265nm, 273nm and 280nm). Knight Optical can also provide custom domes, including with a flange for easier mounting, manufactured from UV fused silica. Also available are optical coatings to enhance the performance of the dome. Quality Assurance All optical components are tested in our state-of-the-art metrology laboratory to ensure they meet every specification, and then 100% visually inspected by our highly trained quality technicians. Knight Optical prides itself on the quality of our optical components, and you can be confident that our products will fit seamlessly into your UVC system.

Knight Optical can offer Calcium Fluoride Lenses for use within the Oil and Gas Industry. We supply a range of calcium fluoride lenses for a range of applications. All individually QA checked and metrology tested for quality to ensure parts meet customer specification. Supplied in a range of sizes and shapes with custom coatings tailored to meet your individual applications. Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers in the oil and gas industry for use within detectors and spectrophotometers. For spectroscopy, calcium fluoride is superior to many other materials such as N-BK7 or fused quartz due to a lack of OH absorption peaks. Due to calcium fluoride’s low absorption and reflection and high damage threshold these lenses can often be used uncoated and are ideal for use in laser applications as well as thermal imaging systems, spectroscopy and high energy neutron detection. Knight Optical offer a range of Stock Achromatic Doublet Lenses for use within Holography. Holography can be said to be a photographic recording of a light field, like an audio recording. This recording is typically 3 dimensional and does not require the use of any special equipment e.g. glasses or headset to view. These images are produced using laser light which are passed through a recording medium which “records” the depth an arrangement of the final image. Achromatic Doublets are used in holographic systems & correct for chromatic aberrations which exist in singlet lenses. This is when different wavelengths of light refract at different rates. The doublet lens helps to correct this by facilitating the focusing of the light to the same point. In holographic systems the aim is to form an image which is as close to real life as possible. Therefore, it is critical for the image to be as clear as possible and free from distortions and aberrations. Read PDF for more info
