Evonik has been producing acrylic acid in Marl since 1991. With time, the acrylic acid plant has become one of the largest acrylic acid plants in the world. Acrylic acid is a highly reactive monomer that is used to produce a large number of different compounds and polymers and is a starting material for polyacrylic acids, plastics and synthetic coatings. Acrylic acid (GAA) is the main raw material used in the manufacture of superabsorbents (SAP). Depending on the molecular weight or connectivity, acrylic acid is also used in flocculating agents, chelating agents and thickening agents. In addition, it copolymerises with monomers such as styrene, butadiene and vinyl acetate. Evonik's acrylic acid range includes acrylic acid products supplied in various different types of packaging (barrels and IBCs), as well as in tankers and tank wagons.
