In salads or drizzled over dishes, it enlivens and accentuates the character of foods. Home to the Berber people from time immemorial, Kabyle was the centre of the revolt against the Aghlabides in the 10th century that led to the creation of the Fatimid dynasty. During Ottoman times it was also a rearguard base for the Khizir Khayr ad-Dîn brothers.Famed for its endless sandy beaches that contrast to the broken coastline known as the Jijelienne coast. One of the heartlands of Algerian fruit and vegetable growing, it is famous in particular for its olives.
