High pressure reverse osmosis OSMO Membrane Systems GmbH is excellently grounded in high pressure reverse osmosis systems with a working pressure up to 160 bars (2300 PSI). So, very high salt contents can be reached. Thus, especially for downstream evaporators, the evaporation volume flow can be reduced significantly which means enormous reductions in plant capacity and energy consumption. Condensate polishing During the production process of basic organic chemicals, very often condensates occur as byproducts, which have to be treated before dumping or recycling into production process. The condensate occurring at the product process of caprolactame contents for example ammonium sulfate and caprolactame. The loss of these products instead of recycling would not only mean a reduction of the process recovery, but also very high costs for waste water treatment. These condensates can be concentrated by a reverse osmosis plant. Because of the high salt retention rate of the reverse osmosis membrane, nearly all contents of the condensate are separated and can be brought back to the production cycle. The filtered permeate can be dumped into the municipal waste water system without hesitation. In some cases, the recirculation of the separated contents is not appropriated. In this context, reverse osmosis helps reducing the volume of the accruing condensate. The remaining conden

Brine concentration In many applications of the chemical industries, a concentration by evaporation of mixtures and brines is necessary. Without membrane technologies, the whole volume flow of the process has to be evaporated. With an upstream reverse osmosis plant, the liquid flow can be pre-concentrated and condensed by a factor of 50-75%. The remaining volume flow is treated by a conventional evaporator. The energy consumption of the membrane systems is mostly significantly below of the consumption of the thermal processes, what makes a condensation by membrane plants very economical. Dye and product desalination Membrane filtration plants of OSMO Membrane Systems GmbH offer various solutions for desalination. Hereby, we offer all stages of projecting – from proof of concept to costumized plant – from a single source. In times of increasing energy and raw material costs, desalination can be a remarkable contribution in the process chain, to cut running costs and to conserve resources. At the production of dyes, e.g. azo dyes, optical brightening agents (OBA) and so on, nano filtration plants are used for retention of pigments and elution of the present neutral salts (Na+Cl-). At the first production step, the content of sodium chloride will be reduced by dia filtration and addition of deionized water until the required salinity of permeate is reached. The proper selection of the NF membrane achieves the highest possible dye retention at the remaining NF concentrate. After this step, dye can be concentrated to the required values. So, different steps of production c

Ultrafiltration of surface water For separation of dissolved substances, ultrafiltration is applied apart from conventional pre-filters (sand and gravel filters). So, all solids and even bacteria, viruses, germs and colloidal components (iron, orthosilicic acid) are retained.

Reverse osmosis used for surface water treatment For the retention of dissolved salts and low-molecular Components, nanofiltration or reverse osmosis is suitable. With nanofiltration, multivalent ions and low-molecular components like e.g. humic substances can be retained. Nanofiltration can be used for reduction of hardness, separation of phosphates and sulphates, as well as for reduction of COD and DOC. With reverse osmosis – additionally to the nanofiltration – monovalent ions can be retained. Generally, with reverse osmosis very good retention rates for DOC can be reached, which especially matters at power plant applications.

Separation of dissolved gases with membrane degasification Gaseous components can be removed by conventional technologies, like e.g. percolators columns (for example CO2-percolators). Alternatively, gaseous components in water can be removed with very high retention rates by membrane degasification, which is working with hydrophobic membranes and a partial pressure drop. The advantages of the membrane degasification are low operation costs as well a s compact design.

Boiler feed water The so called „Boiler feed water“ is stored in a feed water tank and continuously feeded to the boiler of a steam generator. A big quantity of feed water is needed for example in steam power plants. The boiler generates steam, which is used for heating, for chemical processes or for driving a steam turbine respectively a steam engine. The feed water is purified in a way, that all harmfull components for the boiler are removed or neutralized. Leakages and evaporation loss are compensated by additional water which is purified in the same way than boiler feed water. Very often, valuable well and potable water resources are used for the generation of process water. Environmental regulations restrict this usage of well and potable water continuously and increase the costs for this resources steadily. The conditioning of stream water to boiler feed water helps saving potable water and means cost advantages. The process of conditioning is based on ultra filtration with down
