Direct acting solenoid valve are operated directly with the force of the solenoid and due to the same even in 0 bar inlet pressure or 0 bar differential pressure between inlet and outlet port such valve can fully open or close. Generally, as here solenoid force is used, generally this force is counter with the pressure force and/or spring force to Open or Close the solenoid valve. Due the same it has a limitation on the combination of orifice and pressure rating it can provide for a given solenoid force. There are some exception designs which are called pressure balance solenoid valve design but apart from that most of the 3 way direct acting solenoid valve design has this limitation.

Two-way solenoid valve is a common type of solenoid valve used in so many applications. Fluids can be safely controlled and put to optimal use with the help of valves. Many industrial applications require the use of such valves to be automated. In order to automate and conveniently utilize the full potential of fluids, solenoid valves are essential. A general-purpose 2-way Solenoid valve is used where the application should be able to start and stop the flow as and when needed. These valves have two ports that each connect to either the inlet or the outlet and use an internal plunger to open or close an orifice to control the fluid flowing through those valves. It can be configured as "Normally Open" or "Normally Closed". A Normally open two-way solenoid valve allows the media to pass through its port when the coil is de-energized and a Normally Closed valve allows the media to pass through its port when the coil is energized.
