As high-performance plastics, we mainly use PTFE with various fillers such as bronze, glass fiber or carbon. For special applications, we also offer sealing rings made of PAI or PEEK.

We have specialized in R-rings SH according to DIN 34109 / DIN34110 / DIN34118. In addition to the hook joint (SH), we mainly supply with straight joint, overlapped joint (SU) or gas-tight joint (SG or SW).

The guide vanes control the inflow of water in turbines. These vanes run in sliding bearings. To give the bearings longer term protection from water infiltration, the inner sealing MANOY® system seal WP, type 428, was developed for standard specifications. Type 487 with integral scraper was designed for high specifications due to abrasive constituents in the water and/or long inspection intervals. The housing for this seal must be open. The profile dimensions of both versions can be customized to adapt to existing groove designs.

Servo motors in hydropower plants normally operate water hydraulically. These servo motors perform the functions of opening, closing and control of shutoff and regulating devices and must be able to maintain the setting position at any prevailing pressure.

Elastomer or plastic sealing elements and also elements made of composite materials (elastomer + plastic or metal) can be compounded with metal detectable additives.

The encapsulated O‑ring widens the potential applications of the O‑ring. The core of the ring is made of silicone (VMQ) or fluoroelastomer (FKM). The plastic FEP (tetrafluoroethylenehexafluoropropylene) is used for the seamless encapsulation. The particular product advantage lies in the combination of the elasticity of the O‑ring and the chemical resistance of the fluoroplastic.

Design of the housing in the form of a groove should be avoided if possible. If this is not feasible, good housing and seal cleanability must be guaranteed. The hygienic design requirements can be met by having a particularly large groove base radius, avoiding notches and having a split housing. For WIP/WOP cleaning it is important to be able to remove and replace the seal without damaging it. Given a suitable machine design, cleaning in place is also possible.

Face seal used for rotary and oscillating motion in pipe joints and rotary actuators

For SIP (Sterilization In Place), the MANOY® AS dosing piston is fed into the washing hole, which must be designed so that the piston has sufficient expansion capacity during SIP at +140°C to avoid damaging its functionality and shortening its life. After the cleaning process the MANOY® AS dosing piston may only be moved into the dosing hole when a temperature close to the operating temperature (operating temperature +20 °C), and not to exceed +80°C, has been reached. A feed cone into the dosing hole of 10° max. and rounded edges are essential.

For CIP (Cleaning In Place), the MANOY® AS dosing piston is removed from the dosing hole. A simple vertical wash in the hole is suitable and sufficient. After the cleaning process the MANOY® AS dosing piston may only be moved into the dosing hole when a temperature close to the operating temperature (operating temperature +20 °C), and not to exceed +80°C, has been reached. A feed cone into the dosing hole of 10° max. and rounded edges are essential.

Kaplan turbines are typically used for river power plants on calm waters. The blade angle runner blades (Kaplan blades) is adjustable. The pressure of the water flow, which is controlled by the guide vanes of the upstream wicker gate, can then be efficiently converted into energy. The bidirectional MANOY® system seal WP, type 444, in the form of a continuous ring was developed to protect the hydraulic adjustment device and prevent hydraulic fluid leakage. Type 449 is particularly useful for maintenance work because rather than being continuous in circumference, the seal is open and has a guide blade.

Penstocks are used to discharge the headwater from a reservoir. Due to thermal and dynamic effects on the pipelines which are usually run underground in the mountain, compensation for expansion is necessary. By fitting an expansion joint, slow creep movements, eccentricity, dilation and also pipe misalignment can be reliably absorbed. The MANOY® system seal WP, type 436, was specially developed for leakagefree operation of an expansion joint.

Pelton turbines are used in hydropower plants with a high head. The sealing system specifications are equally high.Control of the turbine output is infinitely variable from part to full load by adjusting the nozzle spear valve. The control unit for linear adjustment of the jet needle can be protected against water and silt infiltration by the MANOY® system seal WP. Types 466 and 486 (both inner sealing) were specially developed for these applications. Types 461 and 481 are for outer sealing configurations. In the context of design, types 481 and 486 must have a split housing. All versions can be supplied with customized profile dimensions for existing groove designs.

Pivot pins are found on shutoff devices such as spherical valves, butterfly valves, hollow jet valves and plunger valves. These valves are generally used for opening and closing and occasionally to control the flow rates by oscillating movement. The greaselubricated sliding bearing is protected against water infiltration by a seal on the inside. The seal also prevents the grease leaking into the inside to prevent water contamination. The MANOY® system seal WP, type 418, was developed for this application. To prevent leakage of grease from greased bearings, the unidirectional MANOY® system seal WP, type 456, is also installed.

Suitable aftertreatments can render precision O‑rings and X‑rings suitable for specific requirements. Typical requirements are low friction, easier installation (automatic or manual), lifelong lubrication, smooth running and non stick effect. Coating is a process frequently used for surface treatment. The IDG application consultants are available to discuss specific requirements with you.

Elastomeric wipers/scrapers are used in combination with the MANOY® sliding ring, the MANOY® U‑Cup or other rod seals.
