Our capacitors of the E12 and E33 series are universally-suited for lighting and motor applications as well as power factor correction and power electronics. Their winding element of self-healing polypropylene film is immersed in eco-friendly vegetable oil and designed for highest requirements regarding operational life and functional safety even at high operating temperatures and other extreme conditions such as high humidity. Connection is made through tab connectors. The hermetical aluminium can is provided with an integrated overpressure safety mechanism (break-action mechanism, " BAM ") that disconnects the capacitor irreversibly from the supply in the event of a failure. The E12/E33 ranges comply with the "Type B" classification under lighting standard IEC/EN61048 as well as with "Class P2" under motor capacitor standard IEC/EN 60252-1. Please mind our safety remarks on the use of lighting capacitors in critical environment.

Any device is only as reliable as the sum of its components. With more than fifteen years of experience in manufacturing tuned and detuned filter reactors for power factor correction, we are now offering our range of line reactors for application in power electronics. Same as with our capacitors, we focus on minimized power losses and maximum durability of the reactor – optimized for your application. Made of high-class transformer sheets and copper wire or aluminium band. Vacuum-impregnated with environmentally friendly, low-styrole resin for long operating life, high voltage strength and low noise levels. Standard terminals: copper terminal lugs, optional with screw-terminal blocks or cables. Integrated reversible thermal switch for monitoring of the reactor and control of external disconnection in case of overheating. Our standard range covers 400V 50Hz up to 300A per phase. Other values are available on request.

The custom-tailored capacitors of our E70 series are mainly applied for power factor correction or as resonance capacitors in induction furnaces that are operated at mains frequency (50/60Hz). The E70 are made alternatively in two designs: Inside the steel case, there is a large number of individual self-healing capacitors, each one of them protected by its own break-action mechanism. In the event of a failure, the affected element is disconnected separately while the capacitor as a whole continues to function with slightly decreased total capacitance. Windings assembled inside a hermetically sealed metal case, filled with solid resin, and protected by a pressure sensor similar to the capacitors of our ranges E56/E59.

The special kind of films and coating patterns used in our oil-filled E63-capacitors give them a high specific ratio of capacitance to volume and makes them extremely overvoltage proof. Very good self-healing characteristics and the integrated overpressure protection (" BAM ") ensure safe operation and controlled disconnection in the event of overload or failure at the end of operating life. Hence the E63s are interesting particularly for applications with high AC ripple currents, e.g. as smoothing or supporting capacitors in buffer storage circuits, in sensitive environment with high safety requirements. Note that the presence of an overpressure mechanism adds substantially to the self-inductance of the capacitor, and limits the surge current rating. If self-inductance and surge current are important issues, then our E50 or E53 ranges may be considered as a more adequate option.

It works - even in your smaller DC links! A few years ago, our PK16TM pioneered the large-scale shift from batteries of electrolytic DC link capacitors to energy-efficient and highly reliable film capacitors which has become so common nowadays. The E61 range makes the benefits of this substitution available for DC links with smaller powers now. With their pin terminals, these capacitors can be integrated directly into your printed circuit board. The capacitors of the E61 series are optimized for high rms and surge currents. Along with their high specific ratio of capacitance to volume, they offer long-term stability and storability, as well as excellent self-healing without loss of capacitance. It is our advanced know-how in special capacitor film coating, combined with many decades of practical experience in designing and manufacturing capacitors, which have allowed us to develop this range with its numerous advantages over traditional electrolytic capacitors:

The capacitors of our SR17™ series were developed especially for the maintenance of older traction converters manufactured in the 1970s?1990s. By consequent development of our well-proven MKP-technologies, we managed to place self-healing DC-capacitors with very high energy density and stability of capacitance into can dimensions smaller than, or identical to, those of the traditional MP-capacitors (SIEMENS/EPCOS codes B25353), which makes them ideal drop-in replacements for maintenance and retrofit programmes. Moreover, the low-loss polypropylene dielectric permits a far higher AC ripple load than with the conventional MP-capacitors. Our SR17™ are housed in a hermetical stainless steel cylinder. As opposed to the oil-filled MP-models, these are filled with an eco-friendly solid resin which does not only make them safe against leakage of liquids but also insensitive to the shocks and vibrations common in traction applications. The same applies to their robust plastic insulators.

E53 and E55 capacitors have a particularly low series resistance and high pulse strength. Using sophisticated metallizing patterns, our SINECUT slitting technology and clever winding geometries, they are especially suited for the damping of GTO thyristors and low-inductance buffer circuits with high rms currents. Along with their very good ratio of capacitance to volume, these components do also have very good self-healing characteristics without loss of capacitance. Their very low self-inductance makes them suitable for use in high-current applications with medium frequencies. The capacitors of the E53 product family are housed in flame-retardant plastic cans (V0) and filled with solid resin. Special care has been taken both in terms of design and conservative electrical rating to ensure reliable operation even under tough environmental conditions. Connection is usually made through robust axial terminals with internal thread.

In power electronics in general, and especially in low inductance buffer circuits with higher voltages as well as in discharge circuits, the call for capacitors with low inductance tends to pose problems: traditional high voltage capacitors are filled with oil, and the generous bushings required for clearance and creepage as well as internal safety mechanisms add substantially to the self-inductance of the capacitor. Based on decades of proprietary experience in metallizing capacitor films, ELECTRONICON has created a range of high voltage capacitors in self-healing technology, using the opportunities of special metallizing patterns. Despite the high voltage rating, our E51 range is manufactured in dry technology and without expensive bushings. Inside the can made of self-extinguishing plastic, the capacitor element is enclosed in solid resin (PUR). Connection is made through robust flat terminals with internal thread.

EOL test stand for e-charging columns and their power electronics for the simulation of different electrical loads and mains fluctuations. The test stand has automatic contacting and achieves high test throughputs in end-of-line operation. Different variants of the power electronics of electric charging columns can be tested. On the software side, Merecs Engineering relies on NI-LabVIEW and NI-TestStand.

ESM for AC-brakes: The module consists of a time-controlled rectifier with integral electronic fast turn-off. During start-up, the ESM delivers bridge-rectified output voltage before changing over to half-wave rectification. The built-in voltage sensor ensures that the DC side output voltage is interrupted electronically when AC input voltage is removed. Thanks to its compact design, the ESM can be installed in very restricted space. ESM for DC-brakes: The module keeps the voltage supplied to the electromagnetic device at a constant level over a wide input voltage and temperature range. Full operating voltage is applied to ensure fast switching when the load is switched on. The module then reduces the power supply to constant holding voltage. A 30% reduction provides power savings of 50%. The ESM is very compact thanks to the use of state-of-the-art microelectronic and power electronic components. Overexcitation time and holding voltage can be factory-programmed to customer demands.

Combustible Gas Detection - upgrade to upper class! Monitoring the environment for explosive gases most of the time you would be looking for hydrocarbons. It is a characteristic of hydrocarbons that they have a number of C - H bonds. These bonds absorb infrared light at a wavelength of 3,4 mm ( unsaturated hydrocarbons absorb at 3,3 mm ). This effect can be used to reliably detect these substances The most important advantage is that they are resistant against catalyst poisons and high concentrations. They can even be used in oxygen free atmosphere. Another important advantage of this technology is that a failure cannot go unnoticed. If an important component such as the lamp or the detector fails, the system will recognise this as 100 % absorption (an alarm situation). Most infrared gas detectors are designed as so - called NDIR (Non Dispersive Infra Red) double- beam detectors. This means, the light beam is divided in two portions with different wavelengthes. One is the measuring beam that will be absorbed by gas, the other is a reference beam at a wavelength that will not be absorbed by gas. This beam compensates for intensity variations of the lamp, dirt and corrosion. As the optics are mostly self maintained, an eventual inspection only checks if there is gas access to the sensor. Therefore much longer maintenance intervals compared to the catalytic sensor can be justified. As a rule of thumb, twice as long is OK. For plants which already have installed a combustible gas detection system, there is now a chance for a very cost- effective upgrade: The Statox 501 LC IR or LC MR! It consists of an EEx e (enhanced safety) terminal box and a sensor with integrated electronics. This sensor operates at the same supply voltage as a catalytic sensor. Its output signal is also identical to the signal of a catalytic sensor! This new innovative technical approach keeps the price in the same ballpark as catalytic sensors! All advantages of an infrared gas detector are now available for nearly the same price as a catalytic sensor and existing gas detection systems can now be upgraded without replacing the existing hardware. Of course the miniaturised chip inside the sensor cannot provide the same powerful electronics and software package as a high- end instrument, but however the new Compur Statox 501 IR LC features the most important advantages of an infrared system. In modern applications of power electronics, AC capacitors are among the most critical links in the chain of components when it comes to long operating life, safety and reliability of operation. Decades of proprietary ELECTRONICON experience in metallizing capacitor films and designing high-end capacitors have created our very own Know-How, for instance in special metallizing patterns, our SINECUT slitting technology and optimized winding geometries. This enables us to design AC capacitors with a high specific ratio of capacitance to volume, high AC-voltage load capacity and outstanding suitability for high rms and surge currents. The cylindrical capacitors of our universal AC/DC series "E62" are perfect for non-sinusoidal voltages and pulsed currents, e.g. as damping or commutation capacitors switched in parallel to a thyristor, or connected in series with a resistor (damping of undesirable voltage spikes during the switching of power semiconductors).

AC capacitors require a hermetical casing in order to operate safely and without processes of chemical corrosion. The latter would result in deterioration of metal coating, decrease of capacitance as well as rise of loss factor and – consequentially – failure of the capacitor. DC capacitors – even though less sensitive to humidity – may suffer from excessive operating conditions as well. Another serious issue is the operation in conditions of extreme heat, and there are situations where placement in a cooling liquid is the only way. Certain high voltage applications may require the immersion of all components in insulation oil, such as MIDEL. Quite a few cooling or insulation oils behave aggressively towards metallized polypropylene, causing swelling of the film and deterioration of the contact layers. They must therefore be kept away from the capacitor elements. In the past, mostly MKV capacitors (with oil-impregnated paper electrodes) had to be used in such situations.

E57 are designed to fit directly to the terminals of your IGBT. Our range comprises standard as well as custom-tailored solutions which can be adapted to the specific geometrical and electrical requirements of your application environment. Connection is made through low-inductance copper bars which may vary in number, size and position according to your specifications. The UL:V0 plastic case houses compact and stable cylindrical windings, connected in parallel for maximum current strength and lowest possible selfinductance; it is filled with polyurethane resin, covered by a layer of UL94:V0 compliant resin protecting the winding package from humidity. Our highly reliable SecuMet™ film guarantees secure self-healing properties even under the most demanding operating conditions. Some of our E57 capacitors can be operated at ambient temperatures up to 105°C and are therefore suitable for usage in automotive and other critical applications

Who said it has to look like a surge capacitor? They look different, and as a matter of fact, they are. Surge protection capacitors are designed to protect high voltage motors and transformers from events with high transient overvoltages (e.g. lightning or switching surges). Keeping with our tradition of completely dry products, we have designed the first MV Surge Capacitor in self-healing technology: DSCTM In combination with the PD-free layout, the self-healing dielectric provides for extremely long operating life and highest operational safety. Unlike traditional oil-filled ALLFILM-capacitors which are bound to fail as soon as overvoltage or other stress factors have provoked a dielectric breakdown, the self-healing dielectric of DSCTM insulates the breakdown spot immediately and continues operation as usual.
