Domaine Basse-Ville, located in the charming commune of La Chapelle-Heulin, nestling in the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine wine-growing area, stands proudly in the foothills of the Armorican massif. This outstanding location gives our wines their unique personality thanks to the exceptional shale-rich soil that lends our Muscadet a delicious minerality. The history of our domaine goes back far in time, standing as testimony to the attachment of the Bossard family to this wine-making land. Since the 19th century, from generation to generation, the history of vine-growing in our commune has been one of passion and expertise. It was in 1971 that Michelle and Gilbert Bossard founded the Domaine Basse-Ville, driven by their shared vision and love of wine. Their son Jean-Louis Bossard has headed the domaine since 2007, continuing the family traditional with flair. Our secret for producing exceptional muscadets lies in the combination of unique terroirs, careful selection at harvesting and slow, controlled fermentation. These factors allow us to produce muscadets with a distinctive character, rich and soft, and a long finish. Some of our muscadets will age elegantly over a number of years. The hard work of our team and the quality of our wines have won awards at many competitions.

We are LA COMPAGNIE DE BURGONDIE, a cooperative comprising 800 wine-growing families and specialists from the famed Burgundy region. Our various wines are sourced from the vineyards and cellars of seven well-known winemakers from the north and south of this outstanding winemaking area: Bailly Lapierre, famed for its Crémants de Bourgogne and Auxerrois still wines. Les Vignerons de Buxy for its Côte Chalonnaise and premiers crus. La Cave de Viré and La Cave d'Azé for their Mâconnais wines. La Cave du Château de Chénas, La Cave du Château des Loges and Les Vignerons des Pierres Dorées for their Beaujolais wines. In 2015, these seven winemakers decided to pool their forces and create LA COMPAGNIE DE BURGONDIE so that they could share their expertise and learn together. We have two excellent ranges produced by a century-old family vineyard in the Navarro and La Rioja regions in Spain. The regions are well known for their excellent Reds. Our other range is produced by a family-owned, renowned and an award-winning vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina. Our label design is derived from the crest of our Scottish surname. The Stewart Clan Crest features a pelican feeding her young in its nest. The Latin motto on the crest reads Virescit vulnere virtus, which translates to "Courage grows strong at a wound". The curious thing about the pelican on the crest is that it is not an animal native to Scotland. It is thought that Scottish crusaders saw them during their journeys to the Holy Land. Earlier versions of the crest would portray the pelican as feeding her young from the blood of her own chest, symbolizing self-sacrifice and putting the motto into great perspective. The crest was why the pelican wing was incorporated into our label design.
